Connect Motherboard to Claude

The Motherboard connector lets Claude read your company's Motherboard records and service knowledge while you work, using the permissions you already have in Motherboard. It is read-only.

What it does

When you ask Claude a question, Claude can look things up in Motherboard for you: assets, parts, work orders and other records, plus your company's manuals, SOPs and service knowledge. Claude sees only what you can see in Motherboard. The connector can read; it cannot change anything.

Who can use it

People whose company uses Motherboard and who have a Motherboard sign-in. If your company does not use Motherboard yet, the connector has nothing to connect to.

Set it up

  1. In Claude, add the Motherboard connector. Once it is listed, add it from the Connectors Directory. Until then, or if you prefer, add a custom connector with your company's address: https://<your-company>.motherboardlabs.com/api/journeyman/mcp. Replace <your-company> with the name in your company's Motherboard address.
  2. Sign in with your Motherboard email. Motherboard emails you a code; enter it to sign in.
  3. Review what Claude is asking to access, then click Connect.

What Claude can do

The connector gives Claude 12 read-only tools:

  • Look up a record: Open one record, such as an asset, a part or a work order.
  • List records: List the records of one type, such as your assets.
  • Search records: Find records by the words in them.
  • Query records: Find the records whose fields match what you ask for.
  • Follow relationships: Go from one record to the records linked to it, such as the parts in a bill of materials (BOM).
  • Count relationships: Count the records linked to a record, such as how many parts a BOM has.
  • Describe record types: See which kinds of records your company keeps in Motherboard and what fields they have.
  • Read a cited page: Open the exact document page an answer cites, with its images, such as a wiring diagram.
  • Read source document pages: Read pages of a manual or other source document, with images.
  • Search service knowledge: Search your company's manuals, procedures and other service knowledge for an answer.
  • Read SOPs: Read your company's standard operating procedures.
  • Read the guide: Read Motherboard's short guide that tells Claude how to use these tools well.

What Claude cannot do

  • Change, add or delete anything in Motherboard.
  • Take actions in Motherboard, such as creating or closing a work order.
  • Post to Slack.

Permissions and privacy

Claude works with your permissions, so it sees only the records you can see in Motherboard. Motherboard returns information to Claude only when you ask for it. Once returned, that information is handled under Anthropic's terms for Claude. Motherboard stores who connected, the name Claude reports for itself, and when the connection was made and last used. It never stores your conversations with Claude. Read the details in our Privacy Policy.

Staying connected

You do not need to sign in again while you keep using the connector. If you do not use it for 30 days, the connection expires and Claude will ask you to sign in again.

Disconnect

In Motherboard, go to Settings → Connected agents and disconnect Claude. Claude can no longer read Motherboard after that. Disconnecting cannot take back information Claude already received.

Troubleshooting

  • Claude asks you to sign in again: reconnect the Motherboard connector in Claude and sign in with your email code.
  • Claude cannot find a record you expect: check that you can see it when you sign in to Motherboard. Claude sees only what you can see.
  • Something else: contact support.
